VCMI: Open-Source Engine for Heroes of Might and Magic III
There's an incomplete HotA implementation on VCMI, too! https://github.com/vcmi-mods/horn-of-the-abyss/blob/vcmi-1.4...
It can be installed from the launcher, on the Mods tab.

VCMI: Open-Source Engine for Heroes of Might and Magic III
Other comments are talking about how it's not in scope, which is unfortunate for this case, but since you loved the app, I poked around and found a quite active fork! Unsure how functional it is, but it seems to have gotten quite a bit of love: https://github.com/MaddTheSane/Boxer

86Box – Low level x86 emulator that runs older operating systems and software
For MacOS, Boxer (http://boxerapp.com/) is great. It creates executables (distributable with zero dependencies) that include dosbox and the app to run - the creation is super easy too. Dosbox footprint is very small. It’s just amazing to double click and start the app or game without having to worry about setting up dosbox.
