Installing plugin from Github using terminal
I followed the guide here: https://github.com/homebridge/homebridge-plugin-template

How to install 2 versions of the same plugin?
Yep, just fork it, the plugin template readme should be a good resource about what you need to change to be able to publish it and then use it in parallel: https://github.com/homebridge/homebridge-plugin-template/blob/master/README.md

Create a Simple Homebridge Plugin to control my Vacuum cleaner via URL/API calls
I want to (learn how to) create a simple homebridge plugin that makes url calls that trigger actions on a device and show the status of the device. Currently I am using "Homebridge Http Switch" to make start and stop my Vacuum cleaner. I found https://github.com/homebridge/homebridge-plugin-template but it is kind of overkill for what I am trying to do I think. Could someone point me in the right direction if a simple plugin already exists that has kind of the same features so I only have to change the url-calls?

Finally got my heat and A/C on WiFi. How to investigate Homebridge feasibility?
You should start with this homebridge template: https://github.com/homebridge/homebridge-plugin-template and the habitat api, (which I could not find), you could also reverse engineer the app and add it but thatβs a paid in the π.

anyone doing raspberry pi auto or other cool pi stuff in the van?
here are some detailed instructions on how to get the basics set up, here is a list of a bunch of things you can control that have pre-built plugins. And here is the gist for how the solar panel is controlled (though that was written after I built mine, so I can't speak to this article)

Homebridge Plugin dev
I am taking a swag at some plugin development, I downloaded the template from GitHub When I run npm run watch I can see my new plugin in Homebridge. The plugin in that repo adds two default accessories. Bedroom and Kitchen, I am not seeing these show up in the Homebridge UI, so I assume the plugin while installed isn't actually being invoked. Any ideas what I need to do to make that happen?

What Automation are you most Proud of ?
Then, I make a HomeKit automation that automatically (without any silly confirmation on my iPhone) switches my Home alert system status to Away when I am not at home (based on geofencing) and conversely, switched it to Disarmed when I come home. You would say: this is not possible, dumb Apple does not allow this with security devices. And you're right. That's why I circumvent this moron attitude by using a dummy switch in the middle. The geofencing Home automation controls the Switch On/Off status, and that virtual switch has its own automation that control the security system status. That way, it works! The HomeKit switch is in fact a cheap ESP8266 DIY board flashed with Home Accessory Architect (HAA) open-source firmware (esp-homekit-devices repo on GitHub). But such virtual switch can also be created with homebridge. Or you can use a true Homekit physical socket for example.

Any possibility to update this smart switch
But for homekit there seems to be this firmware: https://github.com/RavenSystem/esp-homekit-devices

Ceiling fan control (in-fan)
I've had great experiences with the Sonoff iFan04-L with the Home Accessory Architect firmware -- I don't know if having to flash new firmware is a complete deal-breaker for you, but that combination of hardware and software is fantastic in my experience. I've installed two iFan04-L units with that firmware and have a third that I intend to install soon (while replacing knob and tube wiring to that particular fan). Flashing the bootstrap firmware is straightforward and quick with a USB UART device, after which there's some setup to do (enter wifi password and configuration script), and once that's done it's more or less a native HomeKit device for all intents and purposes.
- Are there any HomeKit in-line smart switches like this? Native or via Homebridge.
- Can I have HomeBridge, Home Assistant & Plex/NAS on the same Raspberry Pi 4?

Any HomeKit accessories for this?
I replaced 2 of those with Sonoff switches that where flashed with raven to make them HomeKit compatible. https://github.com/RavenSystem/esp-homekit-devices

I think you could achieve the same functionality with it without homebridge as a gateway: https://github.com/RavenSystem/esp-homekit-devices
