Amazing work. I did a similar project only to learn Rust and BitTorrent and I used this amazing blog post as basis: https://blog.jse.li/posts/torrent/

I wrote cratetorrent, a BitTorrent engine in Rust!
Wow! This is great. I wish someone would breathe some life into the related project hypercore-rs. It’s kind of like a more modern bittorrent-like-protocol with some cool features (updatable torrents, low latency, nested torrents). Currently the main implementation is in JS and it would be nice to see some action on the Rust implementation
What are some alternatives?
When comparing herb and hypercore you can also consider the following projects:
synapse - Synapse BitTorrent Daemon
cratetorrent - A BitTorrent V1 engine library for Rust (and currently Linux)
deno - A modern runtime for JavaScript and TypeScript.
intermodal - A command-line utility for BitTorrent torrent file creation, verification, and more
y-crdt - Rust port of Yjs
flumedb-rs
aquatic - High-performance open BitTorrent tracker (UDP, HTTP, WebTorrent)
