The number of mentions indicates the total number of mentions that we've tracked plus the number of user suggested alternatives.

I let that loose on the whole of the Standardized Project Gutenberg Corpus in a few minutes (10GB, 100% cpu for 170 seconds on a RX5800X) with minimal memory usage (because of streaming the data through based on this stackoverflow)
