Jack Mallers of Strike on CNBC's Power Lunch (Full 7:39)
A lot more than the typical price hype noise of this subreddit would have you believe. Running a full node is boring compared to price drama and so it gets little attention. However, you just have to look only as far back as 2017's BIP 148 UASF movement to see that full node operators are as important as miners or merchants in determining the consensus of which fork of Bitcoin wins out; back then, the majority of mining power threatened to significantly increae the operating costs of full node operators in order to support something called SegWit2x but, I would argue, backed down when full node operators paying attention to the politics signalled their support by running the BIP 148 client. Hash power is wasted if it's used to mine coins people don't want to buy. A full node is absolutely essential to determine for yourself if the coins you bought are what you think they are (e.g. via a local block explorer such as with RaspiBlitz).
