    Thanks for both of those. The path I'm looking into right now is using the WiFiWebServer library on the Teensy, which uses the WiFiEspAT library to create a standard WiFi API to an AT command-based ESP8266. I'm still learning about how web servers work (and HTML, CSS, Java, etc) but it seems like this should do what I want. But feel free to point out the error of my ways...
