What should I do with my SP mobo?
If you want to go outside the box, there's the gbaHD mod. It's an open source version of the GBA consolizer.

Is a Gamecube worth it for me?
Other options are the fully diy gbahd, gbahd advanced (kit or assembled), or the GBA Consolizer.

Aside from the Hyperkin RetroN 5, RetroN SQ, and GB Operator, what other hardware can I use to play and record my GB, GBC and GBA cartridges using my PC?
There's the gbaHD. It's a DIY solution to basically mod original GBA hardware to be used with a SNES controller and DVI Output. Another alternative would be woozle's GBA Consolizer which can be purchased fully assembled or as a kit. I built the kit when it first came out and it's great. However these days I'd definitely build the gbaHD. Lastly there's the TV-Out IPS kit. This one's very basic when it comes to functionality. It offers composite output only and you still use your GBA to play.

GBAHD success!
Cool to see! If you connect that additional wire from the FPGA to the Arduino and use the latest FPGA FW (you can find it in the GitHub repo), you can also activate a pixel grid with the controller 🙂.
