Discord support is ignoring requests for appeals
- Fosscord, something thats trying to replicate Discord, open source (their client as of now is just Discord, I recommend) - Matrix, a decentralized federated chat network. - Guilded, owned by Roblox (known for horrendous moderation and support) but overall a good platform. - Telegram, requires a phone number (but takes VOIP), I've used it before. Definite hub for gore/scams but as long as you know what to avoid, it's alright
- Does anyone know any good alternatives to Discord?
- In case the Discord servers are censored, then the Fosscord, a WIP decentralised clone of Discord with backwards compatibility to the latter, can be used as a backup along with Matrix.
-
FYI: Avoid the "Discord Linux" server
I believe you can do it with Fosscord but from my understanding it's not ready yet.

What do you wish you could self-host?
Also fosscord is a nice discord clone

Chrome says nom-nom

Google Chat through Matrix questions
I also use this, with this ansible playbook, works great. There's a mautrix-facebook bridge too, that I also use. Now my phone's Google Chat and Messenger free. It's also neat to have only one app open on desktop too.

Is it possible to host your own Jitsi server and configure matrix (synapse) to use it instead of public Jitsi?
My favourite project surrounding Matrix, (matrix-docker-ansible-deploy)[https://github.com/spantaleev/matrix-docker-ansible-deploy] already does that. You can set it up to install a jitsi instance with a few additional lines of yaml. It then integrates that jitsi instance with Element, so Element uses it whenever you open a video call in rooms with more than two people. I don't know how exactly they do it, but you can look for inspiration in their GitHub repository.

Jitsi Meet Self Host
We use Matrix+Jitsi in our company. Works well. I use this Ansible role to deploy it and maintain.

Federation and TURN Servers
For future reference, this ansible playbook has TURN server as an option, not sure if it would streamline the setup for you https://github.com/spantaleev/matrix-docker-ansible-deploy

Setup guide for dummies?
Are you already running a website on the base domain? If so, you should disable the matrix_nginx_proxy_base_domain_serving_enabled: true option I mentioned in the video and will need to configure .well-known files. https://github.com/spantaleev/matrix-docker-ansible-deploy/blob/master/docs/howto-server-delegation.md
In the "Getting the playbook" step. There should be a setup.yml file in the folder you download from their github repository. iirc, you don't need to touch anything in setup.yml

How do I apply correct DNS settings for an Ansible Matrix home server with DuckDNS?
Unfortunately you probably can’t set up your environment using this document, because DuckDNS does only provide you subdomains. Maybe this document may help you.

How do I apply correct DNS settings for an Ansible Matrix client with DuckDNS?
This mentions how DNS should be configured, but I just don't get how it could be done with DuckDNS. Can anyone help me out with this?
