What's the issue with clones like FossCord? What exactly should be different? What's "wrong" with the existing solutions? Because you don't mention that at all.

Have you looked at https://fosscord.com ?3 projects | reddit.com/r/selfhosted | 6 Nov 2022
There's Fosscord which aims to be a FOSS Discord alternative. Otherwise go for Matrix, Mattermost or Rocketchat.
Do we have alternatives to discord or its open source clients?

There's Fosscord, which is supposed to be a server and client compatible with Discord. Not sure how far along they are at this point though.

How to access the synapse-admin web ui?
2 projects | reddit.com/r/matrixdotorg | 27 May 2023
I installed my home server via the ansible playbook, gave myself admin privileges and then enabled the api in the playbook. The playbook sets up the server with a reverse proxy and im geting an error 'NetworkError when attempting to fetch resource' when i enter in my credentials.
What's the easiest way to use Matrix and add matrix-bridges for Messenger, Instagram, and Telegram etc.

I actually recommend checking out https://etke.cc/ around Matrix setup and more. As someone who's stood up Matrix a couple times in past (including a go-around with the aforementioned matrix-docker-ansible-deploy), I knew some of the pitfalls were still there in setup, and this go-around I lacked the time to manage a Matrix-specific VPS on top of my other local/remote services, esp. since I wanted to use it with friends and family and thus needed it to be bullet-proof (as well as me-proof!)5 projects | reddit.com/r/selfhosted | 1 May 2023
matrix-docker-ansible-deploy with existing SWAG Nginx reverse proxy

I followed the matrix-docker-ansible-deploy as it seems deploying such a stack by hand isn't a piece of cake. I don't find much documentation for deploying a matrix server on top of an existing nginx reverse proxy (SWAG instance in my case) from this guide.2 projects | reddit.com/r/matrixdotorg | 16 Apr 2023

I love self hosting. Here’s my home setup.
Mini atx tower, 8TB usable storage, Debian, AMD processor, 8GB memory
Pfsense Firewall (Tailscale exit node)
Plume Wi-Fi (would like to replace, owned by comcast now)
Portainer + Docker Compose to manage everything
Tailscale (remote WireGuard based access from all my devices. Integrates well with Pfsense)
Home Assistant (amazing platform for home automation and more). I love the new voice control features and mission!
Used to self host Email with Helm hardware company (not k8s Helm) but they went out of business. Self hosting email is annoying thanks to the big email providers and their control over the spam filtering world.
Matrix chat server bridging all the chat interfaces I use. This is managed by an awesome open source Ansible playbook https://github.com/spantaleev/matrix-docker-ansible-deploy
Sounds like it takes way more effort than I thought. After some research I was able to find an automated ansible deployment (here: https://github.com/spantaleev/matrix-docker-ansible-deploy) . Looks like its helping much with manual work via ansible.
What are some alternatives?
self-hosted - Deploy Revolt using Docker.
awesome-selfhosted - A list of Free Software network services and web applications which can be hosted on your own servers
tailscale - The easiest, most secure way to use WireGuard and 2FA.
Synapse - Synapse: Matrix homeserver written in Python/Twisted.
Signal-Server - Server supporting the Signal Private Messenger applications on Android, Desktop, and iOS
caddy-docker-proxy - Caddy as a reverse proxy for Docker
Element - A glossy Matrix collaboration client for the web.
matrix-appservice-discord - A bridge between Matrix and Discord.
imessage - A Matrix-iMessage puppeting bridge
