Trouble with Spider Monkey Panel
Curious why are you using such old versions? SMP 1.3.0 was over three years ago. And Library Tree is 2.4.0 currently with tons of improvements since the first versions.
-
Total noobie to foobar2000 theme installation.
Download the file called foo_spider_monkey_panel.fb2k-component and drag+drop the file to foobar Preferences > Components page.

how does one go about customizing foobar?
you can do everything you're looking to do with varying amounts of complexity or difficulty. to start, open the menu and find "Layout Editing Mode," it should be under "View," and start swapping out panels--this is where you can change visualizations and add more UI elements like buttons; I think you already know how to do this but I'm just making sure. don't look into Columns UI until you're comfortable customizing the default layout. to change colors, press CTRL P and expand "Display" and "Default User Interface," under there--you should see "Colors and Fonts." to add custom backgrounds, you're going to need to use JS, which can be done through components like the Spider Monkey Panel, but I wouldn't mess with this until you're comfortable with everything else.

What are your favourite components?
Spider Monkey Panel, definitely

Decided to share this skin I've been working on for a while
Sorry about that, didn't realize spider monkey didn't have a download there. Here you go.

Need help with buttons
You could however install Spider Monkey Panel (v1.5.2 is currently recommended) and use the included sample scripts for playback buttons, or use one of the already made themes.
-
Very useful scripts for SMP
Try with the latest version of SMP https://github.com/TheQwertiest/foo_spider_monkey_panel/releases/download/v1.5.2/foo_spider_monkey_panel.fb2k-component

Layout centered around the order of a particular playlist?
No, you have to use other method. They're 3 ways to do that : 1 - go to Library - Facets (somewhere in the left you have the option to choose Library or Playlist) . Disadvantage : since you're using CUI (and that's a good choice) you can't add Facets to your layout, it's only a pop up panel 2 - you can use this component https://hydrogenaud.io/index.php?topic=120109.0 to add Facets (or other DUI elements) in a floating panel (you can have the panel in the right side, or left side, or above, play with the settings it's cool) 3 - install this component ( Spider Monkey Panel) : https://github.com/TheQwertiest/foo_spider_monkey_panel/releases/tag/v1.5.1. Add a Spider monkey panel panel to your layout, then install this script https://hydrogenaud.io/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=110938.0;attach=19911 More details here : https://hydrogenaud.io/index.php?topic=110938.msg997853#new and here https://hydrogenaud.io/index.php?topic=111060.300

-
Simple component that shows only the album art of the currently playing song?
For DUI, you need another artwork component - might as well be JScript Panel with the Album Art sample. (JSP is a little more light weight than Spider Monkey Panel, but both include the same sample)
-
Does anybody know how can I display my library with the album covers using columns UI?
Here is link number 1 - Previous text "JSP"
-
How do you set a hot key to do multiple actions?
There are two ways that I briefly explained over here - 1) javascript using JScript Panel / Spider Monkey Panel (best if already using either component), or 2) command line using Scheduler + Run Main components.
-
SimPlaylist
For cover art, what size are you talking? What image type? I'm not sure what need there is to feed foobar massive images, that probably just use up memory and slow everything down. If I have larger original images, I keep them in a different name / folder, and give foobar a downscaled version. Also could view them in a dedicated image tab rather than using a playlist viewer for this task. Something like the Thumbs.js script for JSP / SMP might handle your large images.

What's the simplest way to get a dark theme with Columns UI?
A lot of that would be javascript based - Spider Monkey Panel and/or JScript Panel.
-
How to achieve this?
You could try something like JScript Panel with the included 'JS Playlist' sample. Though it would not look exactly like your "concept idea" - I think the artwork only shows for the group header (so one thumbnail per artist?) - I guess you could make a custom grouping by track %title% to get one thumbnail per track in a playlist? I'm not super familiar with these scripts so perhaps u/marc2k3 would know more (of the entire situation).
-
Which Component/UI Element is This?
They are likely javascript panels - Spider Monkey Panel or JScript Panel. Load a panel into your layout and import one of the included sample scripts (like "Playback Controls").
- foobar Jscript Errors since re-install
