f3 VS axel

I've used f3 (fight flash fraud) on every SD card I've bought for myself or someone else. Never had a failure, but I've pretty much only bought cards direct from mixza on aliexpress.

I'd certainly recommend testing any flash device you get, especially cheap ones. It might take eight hours to write and verify, but it's well worth it. (if you can abide disputes/returns)

It is generally a good idea to test Flashmedia if the reported size is correct even if it looks real. On *Nix systems i can reccomend https://fight-flash-fraud.readthedocs.io/en/stable/ It usually takes <20 min for 1TB sd cards.

Just use this or something similar the determine the actual size, which you should do when you buy flash storage of any kind. Just keep in mind that the usable size will be less than the actual size due to over provisioning.

F3 (“Fight Flash Fraud”) inherently involves a thorough integrity check and so, ignoring fraud, has as confirmed faults for me.

If I remember correctly, the SteamOS formatting process integrates https://github.com/AltraMayor/f3 so you'll probably just get an error upon formatting saying the flash is bad/counterfeit.

To workaround the various tricks a drive can play, one may wish to use a capacity tester in addition to hardware stats.

One could setup a destructive wear-test, but results may not be generalized between lots with identical model number. This is because some manufactures sell performant products for early reviews/shills, and eventually start cost-optimizing the identical product sku with degraded performance.

As annoying as the bait-and-switch trend became, for off-brand consumer hardware YMMV.

no - https://github.com/axel-download-accelerator/axel it's really only for linux - there is a chocolatey ver out there for windows but if you're on win10/11 install bash and use wget2.

So I am new to software development and trying to get started in open source. I'm trying to figure out where to start reading the code for some project, say Axel. As per my current understanding, the function definitions should form a directed acyclic graph and I need to start in the topologically sorted order. Is there some existing library that allows me to do this at a higher level? I didn't know where to ask this so I hope this gets answered.

That said, "download accelerators" were also clever programs that would create multiple connections with the origin and use Range headers to download different parts of the file.

Wonder why I don't hear of them anymore. Maybe because server upload bandwidth is more often generous enough to saturate your bandwidth these days?
