I figured it out. Got vJoy installed and added 1 device with an X/Y joystick. I installed UCR from here and configured it like so. Buttery smooth movement all around.

Need Help... How to Select in SteamVR wihtout Motion Controllers
I would suggest looking a UCR https://github.com/evilC/UCR Should allow you maps button to virtual gamepad/keyboard press etc. I assume you can press enter on keyboard to select the VR title

Send Controller button combo (PS+Square) with a timer (1 minute or whatever)
I looked into it a bit, and while it appears to be theoretically possible, it requires a third program called vJoy, and then a pretty involved AHK library as well - a little bit beyond me at the moment unfortunately - if I have time and energy anytime soon I'll try and take a crack at it.
