Rowy: Open-source Airtable alternative on Google Cloud
no, i missed that one when i was searching, but from the homepage and a quick glance through the docs it doesn't seem like it does what i need. what i want is something like react-data-grid [https://github.com/adazzle/react-data-grid] but with a backend component that handles collaborative updates. essentially a stripped down and actively maintained alternative to ethercalc [https://ethercalc.net/]
baserow had a lot of what i wanted, but the top-level feature set seemed very oriented towards a db admin tool rather than a programmatically managed user interface to single tables or views.

Collaborative table editor component?
ethercalc: abandoned, heavyweight, focused on being a spreadsheet
-
Google Docs will move to canvas based rendering instead of DOM
Well, to be fair Libre Office online exists[0]. However, I believe EtherCalc[1] is faster.

Subscription-based monthly charges are eating everyone alive and no one is pissed off enough about it to do anything.
OSS sometimes has advantages and other times is bad. For example I don't know a good OSS photo editing software. GIMP is clunky. Inkscape isn't too bad. But on the other hand there are tools like CryptPad that are open sourced and more secure alternatives to popular software (in this case Google Suite or Office 365). Or things like Signal. There's a slow turn towards privacy and "best of both worlds" but it is slow and we need more momentum.

WebApp requiring opening of new windows not functional (CryptPad + NativeAlpha)
Lately I have been making use of a CryptPad instance for some google docs/sheets replacement. Their developers suggest using it as a mobile app with no plan to create anything further.

E2EE time tracker
I don't think they have a time tracker, but https://cryptpad.fr/ has a whole suite of web-based end-to-end encrypted apps that you may find useful. There's also https://www.etesync.com/get-apps/ which is more oriented toward contacts, calendars, and tasks, but again i don't think there's a time-tracking app.
