Pull Pics from Your Gameboy Camera with an ESP32
I actually did exactly what you suggest a couple years ago.

I built a receipt printer for GitHub issues
I bought all the equipment to do something like this a while ago, and wanted to set up a script that would print a daily briefing every morning. Then I realized that I would basically be generating tons of garbage for an absolutely frivolous purpose, so I never did it.
I did end up reusing the printer to turn it into a Game Boy Printer, though! ...And I make sure to only print pictures I plan on keeping. ;)

Using a cheap Bluetooth thermal printer as a Game Boy Printer
If you're interested in building this yourself (some electronics/microcontroller skills required) here's the github repo with all the code: https://github.com/iamjackg/esp32-phomemo-gameboy-printer

Some "videos" with the gameboy camera!
I used an arduino nano. upload this code to the arduino, and connect the wires in the link cable to the pins on the arduino, and then open this page in Edge or chromium (firefox doesnt unfortunately support Web Serial) https://herrzatacke.github.io/gb-printer-web/#/gallery/page/1 Then just go to the print menu in gameboy camera (multi print is in START -> Link -> Print -> options) and they will pop up in the web page

Some photos I've taken around Glasgow with my Gameboy camera
As an alternative to the gb operator, you can use Arduino with cut link cable to simulate gameboy printer and print to pc https://github.com/mofosyne/arduino-gameboy-printer-emulator after making it, open this page in Edge, connect the arduino through usb and link cable to the gameboy and start "printing" the image. in the web app it should show as transfering, and then it will let you save the png https://herrzatacke.github.io/gb-printer-web/#/gallery/page/1

What's the cheapest way to get photo off a Gameboy camera?
Cheapest way? Probably this one.

Can I only print photos from my gameboy camera with the gameboy printer?
I build one of these for about $25 bucks to get my pics off the camera and onto my computer. If you're comfortable soldering, it's pretty easy.

You can also make this really simple Gameboy Printer Emulator using an Arduino for <€10: https://github.com/mofosyne/arduino-gameboy-printer-emulator

Question about the gameboy camera
I built one of these which let's you download the images to a computer. You could then print them on whatever printer you have. :-)
