I've read somewhere that LightDM should basically support wayland-based greeters, but somehow had a hard time finding such greeters (could be just me though). So I decided to write a small one myself and figured I'd share: https://github.com/max-moser/elephant-greeter

Does lightdm still run X as root? I haven't used lightdm for some time, but there's the open issue Support non-root X.

Thoroughly confused about monitor layout configuration
you can also copy the default conf contents here https://github.com/Canonical/lightdm/blob/main/data/lightdm.conf and paste it into a text file anywhere. then open a terminal in the same directory as that text file.
- archinstall installs sway & lightdm but reboots into the tty.

Start Qtile in Wayland with DM such as LightDM?
I have opened a bug report for lightdm: https://github.com/canonical/lightdm/issues/268 No answer from devs so far. So i believe it's still there.
