There is also Drawing, but I think it has no options to set compression parameters for e.g. jpeg.

Krita is a professional FREE and open source painting program
Drawing fits that description, but it isn't really comparable to Krita — the authors describe it as like MS Paint but for Gnome.
Pinta seems similar, but more Xfce-ish.

Getting Things GNOME 0.5 released
Google tasks is more integrated into Gmail and Google calendar than ever, and the mobile app gets regular updates. Just because they shut down the separate web ui doesn't indicate sunsetting.
