dockingpanes VS SOFEA

The ribbon bar works better for me in this application because it puts the necessary controls a couple of clicks away.g windows which allow users to position and size them how they want. I've actually written a docking windows library for Qt which I open-sourced (https://github.com/KestrelRadarSensors/dockingpanes) and for that type of user-interface you really need enough tool window (requirements) to make use of, otherwise, it just looks odd.

Wow, another person who works with atmospheric dispersion models. I’m doing something along those lines with Qt. My program is SOFEA.

I'll absolutely take a look at some of this and see what I can use or contribute, though my engineering day job hasn't involved much software development as of late. Strange to find another person doing similar work in this PCB design thread. For better or worse, I obsess over small visual details to try to deliver a consistent user experience, and I even do it with QProxyStyle instead of stylesheets just to provide slightly better performance. See my AppStyle class for example and some generic widgets I have in my QtMisc repository.
