Redis/Celery vs django Channels for a real-time web application
I've just implemented django-instant and it's super easy to setup and get it working. Much simplier than django-channels.

Adding push events (SSE) to Django application (centrifugo, pushpin, mercure....or channels?)
Django-instant: provides a very simple way to push events to channels. Doesn't require django-channels, simply fire up a dockerized 'centrifugo' proxy. Downside is perhaps this package hasn't been updated recently for the latest v4 of centrifugo.

Real time events demo
I recently discovered Alpinejs and updated the django-instant (websockets) and django-mqueue (events) packages to provide frontend templates usable out of the box without npm or build step.

Best way to notify myself of APP EVENTS?
Basically, what you are looking for is called an "event stream," which Kafka implements, but there are other options, such as django-eventstream.

Is it possible in a view to return multiple requests (e.g. like providing a message to the DOM saying 50% processed or 100% processed)?
One possibility is to use SSE (server sent events) or even a full fledged websocket to do that in realtime. You will need Django Channels to maintain HTTP connections. Here's a lib that could help you: https://github.com/fanout/django-eventstream

Adding push events (SSE) to Django application (centrifugo, pushpin, mercure....or channels?)
Django-eventstream: simple way to addon sending events. simply fire up a dockerized 'pushpin' proxy. Looks to be managed by company behind pushpin.
- Best option for Django SSE?
