How did this happen?
Not always, sometimes linux has better performance (like with elden ring), sometimes it has worse performance, and sometimes games aren't playable on linux like most games with invasive kernel level DRM, oh yeah and sometimes games or game related things are ONLY available on Linux like the spine PS4 emulator which has already achieved ingame status with a lot of 2D/indie games and is making a lot of progress.

Xbox 360/PS3 emulation and the "end of history"
Because you don't just have to figure out the software (software that is already not just a stepping through the debugger away from comprehension), but the hardware too. Even in the ps4 case, there's a world to reinvent (here the lines between emulation and virtualization may effectively blur though, since only "secondary devices" wouldn't be run directly)
