Best laptop to use for R stats
I got a Chrome book for £200 and use either Codespaces or Gitpod. Then there's money spare for a nice monitor. Take a look at https://github.com/revodavid/devcontainers-rstudio to see how it's done.

{macrtools} R package: Setup the R compilation toolchain for both Intel-based and Arm-based macs!

RStudio not using the most up to date R
I’ve never tried using ‘installr’ but I recommend you give ‘rig’ a try instead. It’s working incredibly well in my experience, and I trust the expertise of its maintainer.
