Starting off
Alternatively, if you're a Windows hugger, you could use Visual Studio and VMWare or QEMU to build a UEFI-based bootloader. No assembly, it boots straight into your C code. The only problem is debugging and finding some UEFI headers, but there seems to be some templates out there: https://github.com/pbatard/uefi-simple.
