Kubecost gives you insight into where your Kubernetes spend is going. You can view your spend per namespace, service, or even team, and you can set budgets and get real-time alerts. Kubecost can also track other cloud spend from things like RDS and S3, and it also works with on-prem k8s clusters. Kubecost also offers an open source version.

    > No inheritance - no more digging through the massive world-tree of objects to find the code that actually does things.

That's not 100% accurate; as a concrete example, tell me which files (to say nothing of the actual downstream types!) contain the implementations of this interface method: https://github.com/kubecost/cost-model/blob/v1.88.0/pkg/clou... (err, without using github's fancy new SourceGraph-lite integration, of course, that'd be cheating)

I find the sibling "No declared interfaces - they are defined at the point of use, not declared elsewhere" similarly suspicious, but suspect we'd having a nomenclature mismatch

  • How to monitor Kubernetes costs with Kubecost and the Lens IDE
    3 projects | dev.to | 23 Jun 2021
Lens is the most powerful IDE for those who need to deal with Kubernetes clusters on a daily basis. It allows you to manage your cluster and view important health metrics. A Kubecost and Lens integration allows you to also visualize Kubernetes costs directly in the Lens UI. With Lens and Kubecost you can view costs and spend efficiency by namespace, pod, deployment and more!

    > Tell me another platform that is free, has realtime chat, voice and video, has stable service, allows sharing images and other media, with good ownership management... and is open source.

    Mattermost: https://mattermost.com/

    Rocket.Chat: https://www.rocket.chat/

    Nextcloud Talk: https://nextcloud.com/talk/

Self hosting and some assembly required. I've run all of them on cheap VPSes to explore a Slack/Discord replacement, neither was mindblowing but all of them seemed okay (Nextcloud's offering was rather barebones, though).

Audio and video support varies because getting those right is challenging, at best you'd just integrate with something like Jitsi, that one's actually pretty good for meetings and such: https://jitsi.org/ and has a cloud version too: https://meet.jit.si/ (yet people still go for Zoom and it's odd UI/UX choices)

I actually rather liked forums back in the day, but I guess nobody will be setting up that many phpBB instances in the current year, though projects like Discourse also seem promising: https://www.discourse.org/

I don't think many people at all will be leaving Discord, due to how entrenched the platform is (network effect): if you want people to help you with what you're working on, you go where they are, not vice versa.

FWIW, most of the TypeScript lines of code are in the E2E tests[0] and the webapp dir [1], which, as the name suggests, contains "the client code for the Mattermost web app". So we should really only be counting lines of Go code.
