ByteDance replaces etcd with kubebrain [1], which is backed by their own KV store (TiKV seems also supported).
The single-group raft is the hard limit.

Do EKS or GKE use etcd?
Interesting...as i wrote this kubebrain is OSs you can find it here: https://github.com/kubewharf/kubebrain They basically implemented the etcd client API and replaced the backend with tikv I was thinking that might be interesting to add support for dynamodb or crdb
