Ich führe seit einigen Wochen ein Kontakttagebuch (mit der freien App Contact Diary ). Das ist echt klasse. Jeden Abend trage ich kurz ein, mit wem ich wann Kontakt hatte und nach 14 Tagen werden die Einträge wieder gelöscht. Wenn ich mir vorstelle jetzt infiziert zu sein, könnte ich ohne diese App sicher nicht alle Kontakte der letzten zwei Wochen aufzählen, auch wenn ich fast keine habe.

It really is hard to leave Gmail when all of your data has been conveniently stored therein. This is one of Google's retention strategies and it is indeed brilliant.
That said, there's a vast number of self-hosted alternatives like Stalwart Mail (email) [1], Immich (images) [2], NextCloud (Google Docs) [3], etc.

Good open source self-hostable alternatives exist! https://nextcloud.com/ (no affiliation, just a longtime happy user) is great for file sharing and even collaborative online document editing.
If you do not want to host your own instance, there are many great providers who will host one for you at a low cost.
