Any lists or collections of chengyu that use only HSK 1-2 characters?
Happy to help. You can find the Python code here, though you'll need another file (renamed to chengyu.json), which is the database of idioms. I just pulled an open-source one off this repository. All you essentially do is break down every chengyu into its component hanzi, and check to see if those are in the HSK 1 + 2 wordlist.
