I've tried to use cargo-outdated like so:

Thanks to cargo and the community, project maintenance is straightforward in rust. You'll need to install cargo-outdated and cargo-audit:

Use the automated tools to assist you in the maintenance of your projects: rustfmt, clippy, cargo update, cargo outdated and cargo-audit.

I'd add cargo-outdated for checking for outdated dependencies. cargo-tree is also useful, but that's built into cargo itself for some time already.

Some combination of cargo-outdated and cargo-msrv could probably do this in a slightly more manual fashion.

So it merges functionality of cargo-outdated and cargo-audit?

cargo-deny

cargo-deny can help block specified versions of a crate and even has some advisory features that can probably used to block crate with reported vulnerabilities

cargo deny for fetching crates only from trusted sources, blacklisting crates, etc.

Use cargo audit or cargo deny to check the crates in your Cargo.lock to ensure they don't contain any vulnerabilities.

cargo-deny does license and security advisory checking, and cargo-geiger does unsafe checking.

OpenSSL has been banned in our project for a variety of reasons via cargo-deny for around a year and half, it was actually one of the reasons we created it in the first place.
