The panel's appearance is controlled by your theme's SVGs. You will have to modify them to get the panel to change color. My best alternative so far has been using Lightly to remove the details that I find unnecessary in Breeze such as borders on almost every element. I also use Breeze AlphaBlack to be able to easily change the taskbar colors.

I use pywall basically to update the system colors and use Breeze Alphablack to change the theme colors dynamically.

Some themes like Breeze AlphaBlack have easily-configurable colours and transparency.

Not possible. If you just don't like the look of the default workspace widget and are using X11, you can use Virtual Desktop Bar instead, which can be made to look different and also has the scrolling feature.

Lmao. I tried to use Wayland for the first time and KDE just crashed on me months ago, turns out one applet I used a lot was causing the wreckage. And now that I looked at it again, the repo is now read-only, damn.

As an alternative to the native panel widget, the Virtual Desktop Bar plasmoid has an option to turn that off (and also a bunch more to offer). It doesn't work on Wayland though.

Just came here to say I'm with you; no configurable touchpad gestures is an absolute dealbreaker for me but apart from one applet the only thing that's keeping me from Wayland.
