    Unfortunately, it doesn't always work that way. LARS comes with an Intel Skylake sound card, which requires Intel's signed firmware. This firmware was available only for Chrome OS. Therefore, there have always been some ways to get the audio to work on mainline Linux (see this GalliumOS issue, this, this and this), but they are all workarounds.

    After over a year of searching for reasonable solutions, I finally found a way to get the audio to work properly on my Acer Chromebook 14 for Work (LARS). This fix should work for all skylake chromebooks with the sklnau8825max sound card. I shared my work here.
