Why is Proton-GE necessary?
Just to add to this answer, one specific example of proprietary media issue is Windows media foundation. It has been an issue for wine-based projects, such as in bottles, proton, etc.

HDOS is now available to use on the Jagex launcher, meaning Jagex accounts are now able to play!

Jagex Accounts will be MANDATORY
No Linux support is pretty dumb, though, particularly in an environment where the Steam Deck is selling like crack. Thankfully, there's this which seems easier than most other workarounds: https://github.com/TormStorm/jagex-launcher-linux.

You can install the Jagex Launcher using Lutris OR Run the Jagex Launcher in Wine and link to Linux Native RS3 client OR Run the Jagex Launcher and RS3 client in Wine using Bottles

Jagex Launcher and RS Game Client on Linux Using Bottles
After seeing Jagex will not support Linux, I set out to find a way to get the Windows versions to run on Linux. I am not the first to try to find such a solution, but I wanted to share.

Has any one used the jagex account and Linux/steam?
I'm got it working by following https://github.com/TormStorm/jagex-launcher-linux but it wasn't easy. I'm on Xubuntu 20.04.

Jagex launcher on Linux is Good
https://github.com/TormStorm/jagex-launcher-linux running hybrid graphics using" nvidia prime run" lettin u know i been on jagex launcher for an hour now and it runs better and cooler than nvidia prime run. I was gettin peak 80° on my gtx1660ti now its around 70 /69 peak and can keep my hands on laptop confortably lol. I used the tormstorm github https://github.com/TormStorm/jagex-launcher-linux

AFK timer is getting increased!
It does work on Linux! I've got it running pretty nicely using Bottles and following the instructions from this repo: https://github.com/TormStorm/jagex-launcher-linux
