Enter BoomPow - Banano's distributed proof of work (DPoW) system. Users dedicate their hardware to complete PoW for Apps that use the service and earn BAN in the process.

Banano transactions require a "proof of work" in order to be broadcasted and confirmed on the network. Basically, you need to compute a series of random hashes until you find one that is "valid" (satisfies the difficulty equation). This serves as a replacement for a transaction fee. Services that send a lot of transactions, like BananoBot++ or u/Banano_Tipbot can use bpow.banano.cc to let the community help calculate the hashes. 1000 Banano is split between all folders based on how many work hashes you got.

Another method of mining banano is to run BoomPow. This rewards you for providing the POW for nano and banano transactions.

Just my 2 cents, as the author of the atto wallet: atto is completely stateless. You don't need to remember signatures. You can verify the signature with the public key, which is known.

This is why I prefer using atto as a wallet.

If the other wallet only gives you a mnemonic, you would have to convert it into its hexadecimal form, before using it with atto. This has been discussed briefly at the GitHub Issue #3 before. You can use e.g. https://tools.nanos.cc/?tool=seed to do the conversion from mnemonic to hexadecimal seed (you may want to download the page and use it offline for extra security).
