DJM A9 + Denon SC6000s + 1200s + DJS-1000
As I understand it, the mixer is quite good at detecting the bpm from incoming audio - would I be able to use that to inform the DJS-1000 to get it more in sync? Right now I use Beat-Link-Trigger which works but it requires that I connect my decks to wifi to get the AbletonLink to work, which is a bug IMO. I also have a bunch of other issues with the 1850 but that's beyond the scope of this convo. Anyway, just wondering how much of an impact this mixer would have on my setup?

Syncing an Ableton session on a laptop with someone using a two CDJ's and a Pioneer DJM 900NX-S2 mixer
I’ve been able to sync cdjs with traktor using pioneer prolink port, ableton link and beat link trigger

After 1.5+ years on Denon SC6000s, I am going back to Pioneer......
Did you come across beat link trigger? Might help with connecting your Ableton Link devices to Pioneer's Pro DJ Link!
- Combining Denon SC6000M with CDJ 3000
- Using Ableton push 2 with XDJ's not in HID mode

How do i sync Ableton to the CDJ?
I forgot to ask what mixer you are using. I use the Pioneer 900NXS2. You would want the cdjs with ethernet ports and a mixer with ethernet port. You connect all of them to a single router then connect that router to the mac. Note that I use one ethernet port on mac for internet and used a firewire to ethernet dongle for the router. I have been able to not have problems yet with both of them working. The ethernet to the pioneers doesn’t get a green status in Mac Network Preferences but still works. I have been meaning to move this plugin to my raspberry pi for portability. ie so I can ableton link an ipad and not need my mac. The bottom of this page details requirements in equipment and mixers it supports. https://github.com/Deep-Symmetry/beat-link-trigger

Any recommendations for DMX software/ hardware controllers with Pioneer DJ gear?
Beat Link Trigger will do this but I’m not sure if your hardware is supported - https://github.com/Deep-Symmetry/beat-link-trigger

Notes on Emacs Org Mode
Sorry, but _what exactly_ «it seems to do» from your point of view?
My «second brain» now is almost 300Mb of text, pictures, sound files, PDF and other stuff. As I already mentioned, it contains tables, mathematical formulae, sheet music, cross-references, code samples, UML diagrams and graphs in Graphviz format. It is versioned, indexed by local search engine, analyzed by AI assistant and shared between many computers and mobile devices. And (last but not least) it works: it allows me to solve my tasks way more faster than with the assistant of external, non-personalized tools (like ChatGPT, StackExchange or Google).
I know no tools for all this tasks except org-mode. Well, maybe Evernote in the 2010-s was something similar — but with less features, with more bugs and with worse interface.
Personal note-taking _is_ a complex task per se (well, at least for someone like typical HN visitor). I've seen many note-taking tools, that were ridiculously featureless, stupid and inconvenient because they were _not_ complex enough.
> Sure if one wants to do emacs-gardening it is fine.
1)You can use org-mode outside Emacs. See for example Logseq (https://logseq.com/), organice (https://organice.200ok.ch/) or EasyOrg.
2)Org-mode works in Emacs out of the box, you don't need any «emacs-gardening» to use org-mode.
3)The term «Emacs-gardening» itself sound a bit like hate-speech for me. The complexity of Emacs customization is overrated, mostly due to opinions of people who never used Emacs or used it in the previous millennium.

Why I Like Obsidian
Obsidian is great.
For those looking for an open source alternative (or don't want to pay the Obsidian fees for professional usage) check out Logseq: https://logseq.com/

Obsidian 1.5 Desktop (Public)
For an opensource alternative to Obsidian checkout Logseq (1). I spent a while thinking obsidian was opensource out of my own ignorance and was disappointed when I learned it was not.

I'm a science student and amateur web dev. Is this the right tool?
While Emacs and Org mode can certainly be used for this (and, when they can't, you can always inject little python/js scripts in your emacs config to take care of specific things), I'd also recommend you take a look at Logseq.
