If you're running a script, you can use edc/bass to run it from a fish shell. Fisher is one of the first things I install after fish, then bass, z and a few other helper plugins.

As for POSIX, I'll just type bash and do what I need to do, or call a script. You also might want to use the plugin bass, because some programs do not pick up on variables that are set in fish. I think there are other similar plugins, but in my experience bass is the best one. https://github.com/edc/bass

There are a few ways to work with it, either it simply has "var=val" statements that you could turn into a while read loop that sets variables, or you would need something like bass.

There is no need to change `$SHELL` :-/ you can use Bass (https://github.com/edc/bass) to execute any bash script and it will apply the environment variables to the current fish environment.

Friends, I'm not saying that tools like zx are not good. I do like to write some scripts using js/ts. I believe pythoners prefer https://xon.sh/ . Perl is also attractive and interesting. Fish is friendly.

However, I still believe that posix-shell has its own advantages. The balance among size, code length, and expressiveness. I think the only possible competitors are tcl and perl, maybe lua.

Those of you who use (or used) this as your shell: care to share your experience?

It seems a lot less full-featured than https://xon.sh/, but maybe you don't need a lot of bells and whistles for regular usage. I mostly run build, execute, and install commands.

I'm somewhat enticed at the possibility of being able to wrap common executables into forms that are typed (like nushell or elvish) and manipulate them in a way that leverages the type checker.

In that case, is it even more similar to xonsh?
