If I don't use Windows or Mac and only use Linux, will I run into a lot of compatibility issues?
For 2.5d, look at bCNC. https://github.com/vlachoudis/bCNC/wiki It is a combined CAM and sender for GRBL based CNC machines. It imports .dxf files and has enough CAM functionality to be useful. The UI is a bit eccentric (A common pattern) but stick with it; bCNC was my go to CAM for years.
- What's the best Gcode sender out there?
- Alternative to Candle/grblControl that includes finding center of holes and workpieces?

Has anyone LinuxCNC on Orange Pi 800 experience?
Can install straight from pip which is nice. https://github.com/vlachoudis/bCNC

Out of sheer interest: What is your guys' job? And if you are not working already, what degree to you study? Or what else are you doing?
What about putting together the two jobs!?!? https://github.com/vlachoudis/bCNC this is a CNC controller for GRBL made in python. i use it with my home made cnc milling machine :)

Anyone out there using a BL touch to align their 3018 mill?
bCNC can do this; https://github.com/vlachoudis/bCNC/wiki/AutoLevel

Python GCode Client for GRBL
If you are after a Python client for GRBL, give bCNC a try. I use it on my own setup and love it.
- hey! i'm planning to get into arduino and had a couple questions (in comments)

Hey guys, do you know what to use for creating gcodes, except inkscape (the old version where the extension works is not working with my newer mac). I have build a plotter with cnc shield running on grbl. Which means i have a servo and cant use Fusion 360. i think…
Maybe bCNC could do the job? Haven’t tested it but it sounds promising

Python GCode Client for GRBL
Hey everyone, I was struggling with finding a Python Client for GRBL so ending making one for myself. Here's the GitHub repository for the same. It takes in GCode commands and you can use it to automate or make cool projects with Python. Thanks.
What are some alternatives?
Candle - GRBL controller application with G-Code visualizer written in Qt.
cncjs - A web-based interface for CNC milling controller running Grbl, Marlin, Smoothieware, or TinyG.
GRBL-Plotter - A GCode sender (not only for lasers or plotters) for up to two GRBL controller. SVG, DXF, HPGL import. 6 axis DRO.
MKS-SERVO42C - MKS SERVO42C, an upgraded version of MKS SERVO42B, built-in Field-Oriented control algorithm, position/speed/ torque closed-loop, 4 Half bridge driver with 8 MOSFET, it makes the motor quieter, lower vibration and Lower calorific.
candle - Minimalist ML framework for Rust
gsender - Connect to and control Grbl-based CNCs with ease
Grbl-GCode-Sender - A GCode Sender for Grbl and grblHAL written in C# (Windows only).
LibreCAD - LibreCAD is a cross-platform 2D CAD program written in C++17. It can read DXF/DWG files and can write DXF/PDF/SVG files. It supports point/line/circle/ellipse/parabola/spline primitives. The user interface is highly customizable, and has dozens of translations.
DerpCAM - A 2.5D CAM package/toolpath generator for 3-axis CNC routers and mills
grbl - An open source, embedded, high performance g-code-parser and CNC milling controller written in optimized C that will run on a straight Arduino
