A powerful drag and drop library for Angular
Yes, there has many differences. it's based on html5 drag and drop. You can check the examples here, it's difficult to achieve with @angular/cdk. The library is cloned from angular-skyhook which inspired by react-dnd.

Anything you wish there was an open source solution for?
I haven't tried Foundry VTT, so I'm not familiar with the issue you are describing, but you could look into PlanarAlly. I'm currently running 3 campaigns on it. Users join an separate campaigns, they only need to be created once.

An alternative Virtual tabletop: owlbear.rodeo. It has just enough features to be enticing, but not too many that it makes it overwhelming to learn.
Planarally: is not only good, it's perfect. Intuitive and not cluttered UI. Constant updates, it's opensource on github where you can signal bugs or suggest new features. You can self-host it on your own server.
