This maybe means it is possible to adapt some open source Airplay receiver implementation such as this one in to the firmware. However due to the very limited processing power and storage space the stability or such approach is still very questionable.

Title. I'm trying to write a program right now to sync speaker audio with other devices, and I came across the Sonos HTTP API: https://github.com/jishi/node-sonos-http-api

This works quite well as a system that I've tested a few times. When the system triggers, all lights come on full brightness in every room as well as garden and garage and our Sonos system plays an alarm sound on full volume from every room using the http api. Because the speakers in the garage would play too, this would alert our neighbours if we were ever away.

I am running the Sonos API container on docker. It allows to play sound file or you can send a text for text-to-speech announcements. You can specify on which Sonos to play and the volume. Details: https://github.com/jishi/node-sonos-http-api
