Make a Resume in LaTeX from Scratch
The common thread in the comments here deals with separating content from styling. I dealt with the same issue when I was applying to jobs and tweaked the `yaml-resume` project to suit my needs. [1] It lets you specify the content in a yaml file which then generated an html page that can be printed (sample output linked). [2]

Make a Resume in LaTeX from Scratch
I made mine based on an ancient cls file years ago, update it every year or so and it's worked great. Repo is also public (you can click on the PDF to see what it looks like) at https://github.com/sbrother/resume.

Expectations for a mostly solo freelancer of 10 years? I want to return to full-time work.
I've had a ton of luck with a 5-year freelancing stretch on my resume by listing a sample of projects that I actually delivered during that stretch. If you think it's the resume stage where you're struggling, feel free to fork mine (https://github.com/sbrother/resume/blob/master/resume.pdf). The "Cairn Labs" section is my freelancing experience, and while it's probably overly long and wordy, I find some people in big companies are biased against freelancing and it helps to add evidence that it's "real" experience.
