My essential Firefox fixes in 2022
ive mainly been using keepassxc for a few years which is not too ugly i don't think, but have been trying out keeweb recently which is a lot more minimal.
a neat feature with keepass is autotype. i have mine set to alt+x so its easy to activate and using the "add url to window title" extension means there's no connection between your vault and the browser.
https://github.com/erichgoldman/add-url-to-window-title
another idea i had recently was to create a second vault for passwords that aren't that important. so now they majority of my passwords are in that and the vault master password is shorter so its quicker to type, while anything important goes in my main vault which has a stronger password. its great not having to type a really long password just to unlock my vault so i can log into some random forum! and it also means im less paranoid about leaving the vault unlocked.

Password Managers
> another downside with auto-type is that not all websites put their full names in the browser title bar so auto-type won't show you your related passwords in some cases. to fix that you can install a browser extension that puts the full web url in titlebar https://github.com/erichgoldman/add-url-to-window-title
Instead of modifying the browser title, I use AutoTypeSearch plugin for Keepass, that opens a dialog allowing me to suggest entries in case of no matches.
There is also another plugin that allows search using both URL and title -- "WebAutoType".
These two plugins together make the Keepass experience almost seamless.

Bitwarden
To people who want to self-host this, look at Vaultwarden which is a fully compatible alternate server with even more features:
https://github.com/dani-garcia/vaultwarden
Been running it for a year with 0 issues.

What program(s) do you use to remember passwords, including crypto?
For passwords and 2FA I use Bitwarden in combination with a self-hosted Vaultwarden service (for imcreased security and use of pro features for free).

Open Source: An Antidote to Closed Source Vulnerability
I have a lot of software that I host myself on my home server, partly to save money but also because I want to control my own data. For example, I host VaultWarden which is the open source server for BitWarden. This gives me all the premium features for free with the added bonus of keeping my passwords out of the cloud.

Your privacy is optional
I have now switched to using the BitWarden app with the self-hosted VaultWarden server. I have set it up, so my passwords are only accessible when connected to my home network either physically or with a VPN (I am using tailscale for this).
