Stars - the number of stars that a project has on GitHub. Growth - month over month growth in stars.
Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

using Emacs org-mode as rest client replacement
That makes me think https://github.com/abrochard/walkman from /u/abrochard makes more sense since it does exactly that, redirecting the output to a buffer.

I use org-brain. It doesn't use a db, only org ids. It supports both file and headline entries but you can disable the file ones by setting org-brain-include-file-entries to nil
