Mod managers for versions other than Steam?
Okay, so Steam workshop is the best way to go about it? In this case I can always use WorkshopDL to download the mods manually and use them in GOG until I get Gothic Universe if needed.

any way to play custom maps on the epic games version?
Alternatively, you can use WorkshopDL which accomplishes the same thing but makes it slightly easier with the use of a GUI. Note that SteamCMD doesn't work for all games, but according to SteamDB, KF2 should be supported.

Ah yes. Why would I pay 49.99$ for a game when I could simply download it for free?

Vanilla Framework expanded, leading to issues?
The solution here is SteamCMD what lets you download mods from the Workshop as 'annonymous' user. You can either set it up in its barebone form from Steam directly, use a graphical-frontend like https://github.com/VovoloGames/WorkshopDL OR - and that's recommended anyways - use RimPy (https://github.com/rimpy-custom/RimPy) which comes with an integrated UI for SteamCMD that practically lets you 'shop' for Workshop-mods as you would with an actual Steam-version of the game. Since you most likely want to use RimPy as external mod-manager anyways, this goes practically hand-in-hand.

Wreckfest has released on GOG
You can actually download mods with this tool. Just tested https://github.com/VovoloGames/WorkshopDL

Any other way to get mods?
I own the game on GOG and I use WorkshopDL without any issues. It's slightly more work than owning a Steam copy and you have to update mods manually, but I still prefer this to using Steam.

So what's up with the lack of Epic's mod support
GOG is the only other one I relay use, no mod support. If it helps google kicks out https://github.com/VovoloGames/WorkshopDL , in the past iv used 3rd party sites to get workshop mods.

RimPy looks suspicious, is there an open-source alternative?
RimPy, while hosted on GitHub, only provides downloads and no source code. This is very concerning, because it could very well be a trojan. The owner’s responses when confronted is also very suspicious (#79, #131, #135; also relevant: #89).

All of vanilla expanded at once?
Use RimPy if you aren't already. It is a mod manager (which by itself is hugely convenient) that integrates with SteamCMD and can make the process of modding almost as easy as if you were on Steam. Idk if it supports collections though, sorry.

TPS & Performance Hungry Mods?
RimPy, while mainly a ModManager, comes with a few little things that can help with general performance. For one, RimPy has an extensive library of where to put what kind of mod, so chances are pretty good that it will fix a number of small issues that might crop up due to wrong mod-order ; it will also tell you if you're missing something or if mods are incompatible with each other. Incompatible mods especially could cause performance loss or errors down the road.

184 colonists celebrating the colony's 10th anniversary
I don't think it works as a STEAM mod, that's just some information for it. You have to download it from here: https://github.com/rimpy-custom/RimPy/releases

Very glitchy game at the minute. Pawns not dying. How to get to the bottom of it?
Not sure what you're trying to download there exactly - what you want though is; https://github.com/rimpy-custom/RimPy/releases/tag/1.2.6.28 (build#29 when on Linux!)
