For CGNAT peers - is there an alternative which is open source and as simple to use as Tailscale?
I have built https://b-m-f.github.io/WirtBot/ for this use case.

I'm giving out microgrants to open source projects for the third year in a row! Brag about your projects here so I can see them, big or small!
I wrote and maintain https://github.com/b-m-f/WirtBot .

Join your containers into a WireGuard network on spawn
Personally I use this together with https://github.com/b-m-f/WirtBot/ for keeping everything maintained, but `wg-pod` works with any `wg-quick` compatible config.

I have also built https://github.com/b-m-f/WirtBot to make the setup even easier. But this will introduce a third Node that is purely routing traffic, which might be overkill depending on your technical expertise.

Join your containers into a WireGuard network on spawn
It suuposed to be used with https://github.com/containers/quadlet (a systemd generator for podman containers) and of course podman to spawn the containers and then uses a technique similar to https://www.wireguard.com/netns/ in order to give the containers access to the network.
-
Quadlet, an easier way to run system containers
By default, both. You can set the host user independently with HostUser=. See this documentation on the .container file format.
