Some AI applications I found for BGs
[NOT FOR COMMERCIAL USE] Cartoonizer Demo, made by Niraj Pandkar and Tejas Mahajan. Though the online demo was made by these two, the original GitHub repository along with the research paper was made by Xinrui Wang and Jinze Yu.

Made this last year when I was bored experimenting with some A.I stuff, uploaded it to yt and forgot about it, found out it was blocked by yt,F, was able to download a low res version of it.

I also found this: https://github.com/SystemErrorWang/White-box-Cartoonization which looks amazing for point & click adventure games. Unfortunately the license does not allow commercial projects. Though the project itself looks abandoned.

Some AI applications I found for BGs
[Commercial Use OK] Anime Background GAN, by Sho Akiyama. The maximum size for input photos appears to be 1280 pixels for length and/or height, and you can choose from 4 different styles for the generation to be based off of. The original implementation came from Yijun Li.
