Do you use a QWERTY-keyboard but have to regularly type German? Hate having to remember the alt-codes for ü, ö, ä, Ü, Ö, Ä?
Or you could just download https://github.com/sunnysgithub/Umlaut and use alt-gr to write all umlaut letters and ß.

An easy way to type letters like umlauts?
I'm also going to plug my free open source software ChordKeys, which lets you get foreign characters by pressing two keys at exactly the same time. You can download the latest ChordKeysSetup.msi from here: https://github.com/mbsmith93/ChordKeys/releases -- I readily admit that this software is not of full professional quality and you may experience minor issues; the most common is that the process gets killed if your computer goes on power saving mode, and it will stop working until you run the process yourself or restart.

How can I programme my keyboard to make it quicker and easier to type special characters in other languages?
Different people like different solutions. I'm going to go ahead and promote my own free open-source option for windows, https://github.com/mbsmith93/ChordKeys. I'll admit there are some rough edges, the main issue being that it stops working whenever your computer goes into power saving mode - at least I think that's what's happening. Right now I might have one user besides myself - I'll be more motivated to look into problems if I get a little more feedback.
