If you’re interested in going the other direction to solve the sorts of problems you’re looking at, perhaps you might want to consider something like the Scintilla control? (There was a popular .NET wrapper for it called ScintillaNET, but the author seems to have abandoned it. There’s an actively developed .NET 5.0 fork here: https://github.com/VPKSoft/ScintillaNET)
