Up Your AOE4 Gameplay: Converting Build Orders to a Written Format
Basically, I convert all build orders from any civilization I find into a format that can be easily used with RTS_Overlay created by https://www.reddit.com/user/Crafty__Salamander. You can download the tool from here, and the export from aoe4guides.com can be imported directly into RTS_Overlay to practice the BO, with each line being used as a page to move back and forth.

If you are interested, you can download RTS Overlay. It is an app that show BOs with only manual interactions (no AI, no automatic update, so should be similar to your notebook solution).

There needs to be a conventional format for describing build orders
Hi. Unfortunately, I did not follow closely the development of age4builder. I only added a function to generate the aforementioned format. I mainly manage RTS_Overlay and the BO part of AoE4_Overlay.

AoE4_Overlay can now download and display any build order from age4builder.com in Illustrated format: build order step selection, nice layout with game pictures. Super easy to use, as you can see.
Also, AoE4 is less than 1 year old and is sill heavily modified by the devs. So a good BO today might be obsolete in the next months (in contrast to my AoE2 tool where the meta is fixed and where I already did as you suggested).

AoE2 overlay with build orders (29 from Hera included) and match data
I don't think PyQt supports global shortcuts at all, although it's not something I ever tried to implement in my own code. Apparently there's third party libraries that do provide this for PyQt though. This one works as a wrapper for the libqxt library (which has global hotkey support). Unfortunately libqxt is no longer maintained so I'm not sure if it's the most ideal choice. But maybe the existing code can help with this implementation if someone has a lot of time on their hands.
