Ask HN: Any way to run Windows or Mac on a tablet?
Through virtualization (Termux + QEMU), it should be possible. However, unless you're running Windows for ARM (no need for x86-64 emulation), you may get the performance of a Pentium III. Natively, though, those OSes simply don't have drivers and bootloader for your tablet. If you were a systems programmer, you could write those yourself and, after months of work, you'd have something like https://www.worproject.com/

Tested EZdrummer 3 on Raspberry Pi 4
I installed Tiny Windows 11 using Windows on R using another PC. It's important to increase the memory to 4GB in the BIOS and set the resolution to 720p (eg. described here). Otherwise, Windows is going to run very slowly. I didn't overclock even though this would be possible, since I have no cooling on the Pi. It took several hours to install Windows, install EZdrummer and download the core library.

Guess I'll pass, thanks for the opportunity
If you're interested check out https://www.worproject.com/ I put windows 11 on a Pi4 and apart from a slow boot off of the sd it works fine. I think you may be able to get Windows ARM for other devices but it's been a minute since I've tried that.
- I just installed windows 11 on my raspberry pie 4 and it’s saying not connected to ethernet even though my Internet cables plugged in and it works fine on my PC I can’t figure out what’s wrong.

No option to install Windows VM on an M1 Mac?
I don't know if this helps.. but Windows on ARM, like what runs on the Surface Pro X and the Raspberry Pi 4/3 has a compatibility layer to run x86 programs transparently. You'll notice 3 program files directories with a new one for ARM native apps.

Ableton Live 11 jam on Raspberry Pi 400
I installed Windows 11 for ARM on a usb flash drive with the help of https://www.worproject.ml. Windows 11 ARM has 32 and 64 bit x86 dynamic recompilation subsystem, which allows it to run unmodified x86 software. In this case I am using the official Ableton Live 11 trial from their website.

Windows 11, on the Raspberry Pi 4
do you mean this one - https://www.worproject.ml/ ?

Windows 11 on Raspberry Pi 3
It was relatively easy. It's the same as getting Win10 on a Raspi3, using the https://www.worproject.ml/ tool, just with a Win11 install.wim over a Win10 one.

Exploring Windows XP on macOS ARM64
Researching a little showed that this is basically what can be expected running x86 emulation and the systems will just be wonky and slow, although it was running flawlessly, just slow.
There seem to be ways to use Rosetta2 inside a VM [0] to then translate binaries but I found no official support or documentation (using UTM+QEMU that was), this would be such a cool feature, at least there are discussions about it [1,2]

UTM for Developers
UTM makes it easy to set up and manage macOS and Windows virtual machines. This can be especially useful for developers such as Tauri contributors who need to test their applications across multiple platforms, or for those looking to experiment with different operating systems without affecting their primary system.

What is the best way to run Windows 10 or 11 (whatever is better) on a 2020 MacBook Air M1?
If you don't need high performance and want to use the OS only occasionally, check UTM.app, at https://mac.getutm.app/ (or https://github.com/utmapp/UTM ). Free, open source.
