Is it possible to adress things connected to a switch by the physical port their connected to?
These all seemed like great general purpose solutions that would work with any switch, but I was more thinking along the lines of a proprietary protocol/API that a switch manufacturer could implement similar to what you do with smart strips: https://github.com/p-doyle/Python-KasaSmartPowerStrip#example-code
- Will this TP-link Energy Monitoring work?
- Need a product/device that can record power/current measurements from the power strip.

Has anybody hacked the TPLink TL-SG108E?
https://github.com/rgl/ansible-collection-tp-link-easy-smart-switch <- this one contains a proof-of-concept reimplementation of the control software in an ansible playbook. There is a lot of information here on how the control protocol works and things like the Realtek Remote Control Protocol that will be helpful in implementing /u/SleeplessInS's suggestion.
