As u/NatoBoram said, consider using PrismLauncher instead of Cursforge. It adds compatibility for Modrinth (which has far more mods and a faster UI and API than Curseforge), and never failed me with such mistakes.

I haven't looked into the code much, but the way it uses Minecraft assets is that it downloads a minecraft.jar from Mojang and extracts the files from it.[1]
