OpenVR2Key VS JediOutcastLinux

VAFS Redux works well in VR in my experience and you don't need to use quick slots for activation since you can send keyboard hotkeys in VR using OpenVR2Key or OpenVR-AdvancedSettings.

I've thought about the idea of using a chording style keyboard by mapping the keys on the Valve Index controllers to actual keyboard keys. The chording idea has a much more difficult learning curve. I'm not sure many would be willing to invest the time?

2) we need to figure out how to access more controller functions. THIS IS THE STEP I AM ON NOW. I am going to try to use this tool: https://github.com/BOLL7708/OpenVR2Key to map touch controller buttons to keyboard commands in GTAV. Assuming it works, the art will be in which commands to map to give the most playable experience possible at least for free roaming and causing general mayhem. I would be open to other ideas to do the same thing though - maybe using Voice Attack or vjoy.

Hello! As the title states, this is a software method that I have used in VRChat for a while. It allows you to translate your VR controller button presses into keyboard presses using a helpful program called OpenVR2Key. I use this in combination with Soundpad to create an on-demand soundboard with multiple uses. Soundpad has a Hotkey system that allows you to translate keyboard presses into sounds, either by playlist or individual sound files.

For Jedi Outcast there is a special version with hand tracking but it's not included in the last official release. Not sure how to handle this. There's instructions here for how to install it.

Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast and Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy VR mods haven't been updated in years but might still work with revive?

The source to Jedi Knight Outcast is available. Someone has made a PC VR port for Rift without Touch Controllers. They also did Jedi Academy with at least preliminary support for Touch Controllers. Last commits were in 2017.

It works just like what you described. I've tested it with the Star Wars Jedi Knight II openVR port from here.
