    One limitation is the sample rate, another the A/C coupling of the input. I think it may still be useful to test the sound card oscilloscope on your circuits,as long as you are aware of the limitations. Another option is to use a cheap controller board such as an Arduino with firmware to capture ADC readings and display this data on a PC. There are plenty of examples around, and would cost much less than 10% of a real oscilloscope.
