If you have some Pthyon experience, you should be able to use something like TinyTuya to pull DP data from your Tuya devices. Alternatively, you can use Tuya-Cloudcutter to flash a local-only firmware like ESPHome/LibreTiny or OpenBeken which have much easier integration options (local open API, HTTP, MQTT, etc).

The S40 plugs switched from the ESP8266 MCU in the S31 to a BL602 MCU, so you'll need to flash using OpenBeken or LibreTiny

Since it’s tuya you could install custom firmware (openbeken) for fully local control and use device group feature to sync the light colors without relying on cloud.

Tuya devices, and the Tuya-based Monster, Greeni, etc stuff can be connected to HA using the Tuya Integration, or converted to local-only using Tuya Cloudcutter and connected to HA using Local Tuya, or even flashed with Tasmota, ESPHome/Libre Tiny, or OpenBeken.

A: OpenBeken: What are your opinions of it? I haven't played with it yet, but it being a non native means of getting it into ESPhome has me concerned about stability and project support. Not having to modify the hardware would be nice.

The Switchbot plugs take a bit more work to flash, but that's an option as well.

I'm waiting for Amazon to bring me some Switchbot Mini plugs today. By the specs it is super small for a rectangular outlet and shouldn't interfere with anything adjacent unless it's oversized. SwitchbOTA isn't as simple as throwing tuya-convert-os on a Pi but it's not unreasonable. ESP32-C3 inside so as a bonus it can be a Bluetooth/BLE proxy with Tasmota+BLErry or ESPHome. And with BF deals on their website and Amazon right now they're as cheap as anything ($22.49 for 4).

I went through the trouble of flashing these bulbs with Tasmota using this process and have been happy with them (other than the extra effort required for the flashing process itself). At the time, they were a steal at under $3.70/bulb on Amazon.

I don't have a huge amount of experience with OTA flashable bulbs, as I've mostly stuck to Zwave devices and switches over bulbs, but I did recently get a few Switchbot bulbs that were flashable OTA. I specifically got them because they were ESP32 vs ESP8266 based, were OTA flashable, and were on sale at the time (under $4/ea, vs the $15+ that they normally go for). There's some good flashing info here and here. The flashing process is a little involved (basically DNS spoofing and injecting the Tasmota firmware in a MITM attack) but doable, and still works as far as I know.
