MySensors VS arduino-LoRa

Engineering implies working within constraints. Most people in this realm only have to deal with the spouse acceptance factor as a limiter.

Went from openhab -> homeassistant -> Node-RED. Then sprinkle in MySensors, Frigate, and Double-Take, but not on just the entrance, go for the perimeter then defense in depth.

MySensors, IM(very)HO is a better system if you are building your own gear. They too have CLA requirements.

If you like the idea of a smart home but worried about the S in IOT check out MySensors.

I have had great fun and good use of MySensors, that could be a place to start. It’s a very friendly and supportive community.

As mentioned, chirpstack works well if you still want to use LoRaWAN. Alternatively, you can use a system such as https://www.mysensors.org/ which builds its own protocol on top of lora. Finally, you can write everything from scratch using radio libraries (eg: https://www.airspayce.com/mikem/arduino/RadioHead/)

If you haven't already defined your sensor modules, have a look at the MySensors framework. It works via a tree network where every node works as a repeater so you can easily build a large and sparse network with encryption at very low cost. It also integrates seamlessly with Home Assistant and most other HA controllers. I've used it at home with good results and it supports the RFM69 radio using India frequency bands.

I'm simply trying to send a message back and forth. Problem is documentation for these things suck. I found this website https://robotzero.one/heltec-wifi-lora-32/ that is for the 2.0 version. Your network, your rules. You can use whatever radio parameters you want, and you can use a frequency not used by popular LoRaWAN networks.TTN does not use great parameters for long range anyway. I use https://github.com/sandeepmistry/arduino-LoRa library its easy enough to use and understand. https://github.com/jgromes/RadioLib is good but a bit more complex to implement.

I am currently working on a Lora library for the Raspberry Pi Pico. I am using the Pico SDK with C++ and not the Arduino Framework. I'm trying to port the official Lora library for Arduino. Unfortunately, I fail at the Lora.print() function which is used to print the packages, because it is an overloaded function and I can't seem to find the right source code. Unfortunately, the documentation of my Lora chip (SX1276) is not very good, and I don't recognize which values I have to write in which register to actually send a message. This is my current code base.

Yes, you need two LoRa transceivers. There are a bunch of settings including frequency, spreading factor, bandwidth, coding rate, preamble length and sync word that need to match. Read the documentation.

You should send a pull request fixing the documentation for the next person!

You should probably check out LoRA modules. They should be able to achieve >10 km range (under thr right conditions), are reasonably priced and have good library support (e.g. https://github.com/sandeepmistry/arduino-LoRa ). Most of them communicate via SPI or I2C though, so no RX/TX pins.
